Camouflaged Kids

Animals use camouflage as a way to stay safe. We like to dress in natural colored clothing so we can take our nature walks without being as noticed by the animals we want to watch.

You need to wear clothes that make you camouflaged like the bird below:

Can't see the bird? He is there! He is a Common Paraque.

He naps on or near tree limbs that match his feathers.

He was sleeping on the ground 12 inches from the pathway.

People walk by and never see it unless someone is really looking for it.

They live all over South Texas but this one and his mate live at Estero LLano State Park in Weslaco. (click this link to visit the state park : http://www.theworldbirdingcenter.com/estero.html)

Plan to visit Estero Llano State Park someday to see the wonderful birds and animals that live there.

We played "Dress For The Great Outdoors" game and the boys won!
3 kids at a time had a race to dress up in crazy clothes the quickest and then say and sign- Wild About Texas Wildlife!

We learned that if you want to blend in with nature you need to wear natural colored clothes.
Never wear white when you go birding or on a nature walk or you will scare the animals away!
