Kids Are Wild About Texas Wildlife!

If you are like most kids in Texas you spend a lot of time outdoors.

You don't have to take long hikes or climb mountains to see wildlife.

In Texas wildlife is as near as our own backyards!

Hope each Wild About Texas Wildlife student enjoy this website but don't stay too long!   The real adventure is outside!

Animals use camouflage as a way to stay safe.  We like to dress in natural colored clothing so we can take our nature walks without being as noticed by the animals we want to watch.

You need to wear clothes that make you camouflaged like the bird below:

Can't see the bird?  He is there!  He is a Common Paraque.

He naps on or near tree limbs that match his feathers.

He was sleeping on the ground 12 inches from the pathway.

People walk by and never see it unless someone is really looking for it.

They live all over South Texas but this one and his mate live at Estero LLano State Park in Weslaco.  (click this link to visit the state park :  http://www.theworldbirdingcenter.com/estero.html)

Plan to visit Estero Llano State Park someday to see the wonderful birds and animals that live there.

This Screech Owl sat in this palm tree everyday for a week.

He would show up at dusk which is right before the sun goes down.

You can find birds and wildlife too!  Be watching!
